A durational performance forcing themselves into stillness against the winds, Saint crucifies themselves on Margate's Harbour arm beneath Tracey Emin's neon I Never Stopped Loving You, accompanied by the apparitions of a seagull and rat placing them in the middle as a realisation of the cross. Exploring the cruciform without the presence of Jesus’ body leaves us with a simple diagram; the short horizontal line confronts the limited human experience of time walking the earth and the long transcendental journey of meeting, becoming and realising God is addressed through the vertical. The point at which these meet indicates to followers of Christ their position as half way through the physical and much higher up the spiritual path. Through intentional, mystical discomfort, raised high above the rats and far below the gulls, we are reminded of the divine revelations that come through suffering.
