Saint received an apparition of Mary at The Wonderworks, formerly The Hornby Museum. The apparition revealed the shrouded figure of Mary in the painted patch of a plastic cow that was engaging in an odd ritual practice with two other plastic cows. The visionary works that followed were charcoal suggestions reminiscent of Henri Michaux's frottage works that attempt to suggest but not pin down divinity and is the first step in addressing Mary's uncomfortable exclusion from The Holy Trinity.

I had been keeping a list of humble apparitions in a nod to the Psychedelic Porn Crumpets’ song title Found God in a Tomato and the phenomenon of finding celebrity faces in food items (most notably the vision of Lady Diana in a slice of ham). So back in the studio I obsessively drew the crude apparition from the holy plastic cow. The compulsion accompanied me through a range of manic to meditative states for days.

These chance encounters with the cows and synchronicities of otherwise banal events are things that Saint sees as opportunities to potentially translate signs and messages as if from God. The culture of their indoctrinated childhood left them conditioned to look for miracles. Almost acting as a medium or ‘Prophet’ in the production of these works they understand them as a dialogue between a Christian message and access to hallucinatory knowledge.
